Little Ruby Mae!

I took pictures of Ruby Mae last weekend. She had a long day, just getting back from a wedding up by Bellingham. I was prepared for a fussy baby, but instead found such a sweet little babe that smiled at her parents and let us do just about whatever we wanted with her without fussing. She was tired, but it actually allowed for some sweet pictures at the end of her shoot of her sleeping. Her parents were wonderful and excited to change clothes every now and again, and to help try to get little Ruby to smile.

Here are some of my favorites from her shoot:

I think every post I say how much I love the child or baby I photograph, and how much I enjoy/appreciate their parents... I realized this today as I was looking through previous blog posts. I truly love taking pictures of these babies and kids, no matter how challenging it is, it is so rewarding to be able to give these parents some photos that they will cherish for years. I feel so lucky to do something I love so much.

Oh Danny Boy!

Last week I met up to photograph three year old Daniel. He is a fun little boy that loves to run, play, laugh, and hide! I have learned that this age group can be challenging, and I am always up for a challenge...AND determined to capture the child's full spirit. Daniel was a challenge, in that he was sure of the fact that he did not want his photo taken and wanted to hide. I can relate. There is a reason I prefer to be the photographer and not the one photographed! So I played with Daniel, and ran around the house and yard with him and did successfully capture this little guy throughout the one hour I was there. I have learned as a photographer that patience is important, and that most parents will be on your side to help because they do want some great pictures. His mom was a big help in offering up a cookie as a treat for being such a good boy.

Two and three year olds fall into the category of learning autonomy. They have realized they are a separate person and that they have a voice. They can say no, they can make the choice not to do what you ask them to do. This I know, as I have learned all about it in school and have seen this in action with my all of my friend's children that are this age. SO! I got home from this shoot thinking that I need ways to be more successful with grabbing the attention of the child and focusing them in on the camera so I can efficiently snap some really great photographs. A photographer doesn't give away all of their secrets, but I have come up with some really great ideas that I am excited to try out with all little kids ranging from babies to eight and nine year olds. I can not wait for the next opportunity to explore these ideas I have and see what photos come from them.

Thank you, sweet and fun loving Daniel for stirring up these great ideas! It was fun chasing you and playing with you, my little friend! Here are a few of the shots from this shoot:

Another great shoot down! I'm can't wait for the next one!

Brother and Sister!

This last week I met up with Taryn to take a few pictures of her kids Elana and Ezra. It was a big day for Elana, she had her last day of pre-school and was starting kindergarten the next day. She was full of energy and was excited to show off her magic tricks, art work, hello kitty stuffie, and her little brother Ezra. After taking a few shots with her little brother, Elana wanted to run around and play. So, I then focused my energy on taking pictures of Ezra. Little Ezra is such a sweet, happy little guy. He was satisfied sitting happy on the grass and playing with the dandelions while I took pictures.

Here are a few shots from their shoot!

Aren't these two super cute?

Sugar And Spice!

I met up earlier this week to photograph Vivienne, an adorable six month old baby girl. She was full of sass and love for all things super important in her world: her mom, her dad, and her dog. It was really cool seeing how when she smiled, her parents just lit up. I love seeing the joy of what a baby brings to parents!

Here are a few of my favorite shots from Vivienne's first big photo shoot!

Isn't she sweet? Babies grow so fast and change so quickly. I love capturing them so their parents can look back and reminisce about how small they were, how much they have changed and grown. It's photo shoots like these that remind me how much I love my job!

What A Little Busy Bee!

Monday I met up with some friends for lunch and to take pictures of their little girl. Vivienne is a two year old, going on five! What I mean by this is that she is so stinkin' smart! She talks up a storm and is pretty tall for her age. It's easy to forget that she is really only two. Vivienne is also the busiest little person I have spent time with in a while! She was buzzing all over the house and yard, quick to show me her dance moves and all of her favorite stuffies and books. A total sweetheart!

Here are some pictures from her photo shoot!

It was fun running around with this little one for a few hours! What a wonderful challenge to photograph this little busy bee.

Happy Birthday, Hallam!

This Saturday I made the trek out to Vashon Island to photograph and celebrate another one year birthday. Hallam turned one, and of course it was a big deal! Anton and Amanda live on some beautiful acreage, and it was a perfect sunny day to take pictures outside.

Here are some of my favorites from his party.

It has been a wonderful few weeks of photographing the celebration of the first year of life! It definitely is something worth celebrating. Happy birthday, little Hallam!
